With Game of Thrones fans waiting for George RR Martin's Winds of Winter to arrive, the author finally shone some ray of hope by saying that he is currently enforcing self-quarantine to finish the book.
With the last book, Dance of Dragons, released as far back as 2011, fans have been growing more frustrated with George RR Martin for the delayed release of the sixth and seventh books in his A Song of Fire and Ice saga, The Wrap reported.
It can be recalled that in an unprecedented event, HBO's adaptation of the epic Game of Thrones saga surpassed its source material and went ahead with its sixth, seventh and eighth seasons with a skeleton idea given to showrunners by George RR Martin himself.
After receiving direction from the rich materials of A Song of Ice and Fire for the first five seasons, Game of Thrones did its best to convey George RR Martin's vision without Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, the sixth and seventh books of the saga that were still being written by the author.
As a result, the final season was widely panned by audiences who felt let down by the way showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff chose to end the fates of the characters.
This has not stopped HBO from picking up four Game of Thrones spinoff series that will be released per quarter. House of Dragons, a prequel to the events of Game of Thrones, reportedly, has been set for a 2022 release with 10 episodes ordered, Vox reported.
In his most recent blog, the 71-year-old author acknowledged that he was a part of the most vulnerable population amid the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) global health pandemic. He said that he has taken the initiative to take sensible precautions given his age and physical condition.
"I am off by myself in a remote isolated location, attended by one of my staff, and I'm not going into town or seeing anyone. Truth be told, I am spending more time in Westeros than in the real world, writing every day. Things are pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms... but maybe not as grim as they may become here," he said, giving fans hope that he will finally be able to deliver the tome they have desperately waiting for after the COVID-19 outbreak is resolved.
Martin also took some time out to wish his fans well amid the massive number of cases spreading globally.
