After opening the eighth season with much excitement, fans of HBO's epic series "Game of Thrones" have met the final season with mixed reactions with some fans even launching a petition signed by millions to redo the entire eighth season due to unmet expectations.
After 19.3 million viewers witnessed the final episode, fans turn to author George R.R. Martin to complete the "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga that inspired the television series. It seems that there might finally be some progress with the author's latest post.
Among those who are rooting for GRRM to finish his epic masterpiece is Air New Zealand which went so far as to produce an open invitation to the author to fly him to New Zealand free so that he can finish his last two novels surrounded by the peacefulness and beauty of their country.
The video enumerated the reasons why an extended visit to New Zealand would inspire George R.R. Martin to finish the sixth and seventh books - the "Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring." The 90-second message also tried to convince the famous author to fly away from the pressures of fans and professional commitments to concentrate on his final books.
In his Not a Blog page, George R.R. Martin addressed Air New Zealand's generous invitation but politely declined their offer, citing that he would be too distracted by the beauty of the country to focus on his writing.
He also said that he could well afford to fly himself to NZ, but many other writers would appreciate the opportunity to take up the invitation in his place if the airline was to extend the invite to 30 or 50 of them.
However, it was with the author's final statement that fans found hope that George R.R. Martin is close to finishing "Winds of Winter."
It was not lost on fans that GRRM ended his blog by saying that if he did not have a copy of the book in his hand by WorldCon in July 2020, he is giving his written permission to have himself imprisoned in a cabin in White Island until he finishes his novels.
It can be recalled that GRRM took to his Not a Blog page to congratulate HBO's "Game of Thrones" team headed by D.B. Weiss and David Benioff for a job well done. He also explained to fans that developing a show with the same magnitude as A Song of Ice and Fire is a daunting task and is far removed from producing a manuscript.
He also assured fans that he would be busy working on the remaining installments of his saga to release them at the soonest possible time. The author has refrained from committing to any release date after he failed to meet deadlines in the past. The last book, "A Dance with Dragons," was released in 2011.
