In this time and age, trying to get freebies is a norm. Tesla Motors has been known to be generous and some owners would love to get a free replacement or service if they can prove they are deserving of one. In the case of a Tesla Model 3 owner, he tried but his supporting proof about it is unlikely to hold up.

A certain Balaji Simma (@bsimma) put up a video post on Twitter recently claiming that the rear window of his Tesla Model 3 shattered within 24 hours of delivery. The car has less than 40 miles and the owner, for some reason, tried to sell that it was a defect. To add more drama to it, he even said that he hopes it would not disappoint other new owners.

Footage of the tweet can be viewed below. But for those with a keen eye, when the video reaches a certain mark (7 seconds), take note of the obviously (and poorly) edited portion of the window shattering, InsideEVs reported.

There are plenty of things to consider outside the badly edited portion. One is that there were no video surveillance records found. The legitimacy of the Twitter account is also under scrutiny by folks who came across the post. Simma responded to the criticism, raising questions on why most think it is edited. He claims that it was surveillance footage and he does not have to prove it. As one would expect, Simma got some unwanted attention for his troubles. Some even tried to direct message him but to no avail. To his credit though, other people claimed of experiencing the same thing. However, these were not on the Tesla Model 3 but other models. One video below shows an owner claiming that his Tesla X back window exploded as he was driving.

Back in November, the closest case related to these is the ones involving a Tesla Cybertruck window. Though these were supposedly unbreakable, Tesla CEO Elon Musk the reason behind it. When a steel ball was thrown at the windows, it hit the truck's doors with a big sledgehammer. And while it was meant to show off the strength of the Cybertruck's body panels, the impact from the sledgehammer slightly damaged the glass.

Compared to the videos, that explanation hardly explains why the windows broke. There could be other factors involved such as previously getting hit or even high temperatures. Tesla and Musk have yet to give their take on the issue, or may never will unless there is the credible proof behind it.
