Mikel Arteta seems convinced the worst is over for him after testing positive for the novel coronavirus days ago. It took only "three to four days," for the Arsenal boss to recover from the deadly bug, which has already killed thousands from around the world. Despite feeling much better, Arteta and the Gunners will not return to training soon.
The Spaniard said he is quite well at the moment, adding he is convinced of full recovery nearly two weeks after contracting the virus.
"It took me three or four days to start feeling much better and with more energy, to leave the symptoms behind. Now, the truth is that I feel very well," said the Gunners head coach, and the per the report from The Sun.
He added that feeling ill is now a thing of the past for him and insisted: "I feel that I have recovered."
Arteta recalled that the bug caught him fast. He felt alarmed when the news went out that Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis tested positive for COVID-19 and it was after the Greek club had clashed with Arsenal. He then received an advisory that all those who came in contact with Marinakis were at risk and must be tested.
"Everything happened very fast ... I went on to tell them that I wasn't feeling well and that we had a situation because we had lots of players that had been in contact with them," Arteta said.
The Spanish boss decided to take the test on the day the Gunners were supposed to play against Manchester City and the result showed he was infected. The next move to make was to inform Premier League officials, which led to the suspension of the games and eventually of the season.
"All those that had been in contact with me had to go into quarantine, and consequently, games had to be suspended," said the Gunners boss.
The update from Arteta came as Arsenal players were supposed to resume training this week following the end of a 14-day quarantine. However, BBC said the Gunners' training facilities will remain shuttered and it is the same case not only in the Premier League but also in other domestic leagues around Europe.
In a statement, Arsenal said training exercises will remain suspended until further notice.
"As a result of the current situation, we are clear it would be inappropriate and irresponsible to ask players to come back at this time," said the North London club.
The decision is in line with the directive issued by Premier League this week that the season will no restart until June 1, which means that club owners can still monitor the events in the next few weeks before moving to resume team training.
The Premier League has indicated that the current campaign will end six weeks after the resumption of the games for the next season to begin on August 8.
