Sony recently held the "Road to PS5" online event where it formally unveiled that specs of its next generation gaming console. Aside from the earlier trickle of information about the PS5, this is the first time that the gaming industry heard more details about the upcoming gaming console. While it was officially confirmed that the PS5 has lesser Teraflops count compared to the Xbox Series X, Sony gaming console could be considered as an "intelligently streamlined PC."
The compliment comes from Intel Graphics Developer Dietmar Suoch, which is all praises about the PS5 in his post on the social networking site Twitter. The developer says that it "seems like Sony made some very smart & sensible choices regarding PS5's architecture. SSD improvements are impressive but also long overdue. CPU & GPU improvements are great but expected. I'm mainly stoked for the possibilities with the new audio engine!"
Suoch adds that "to me, it still seems like an intelligently streamlined (for performance) PC. Overcoming hardware/software bottlenecks, enabling and improving on entertainment related things (input latency, force feedback, refresh, audio fidelity, etc). Which is great."
Even a former Xbox Marketing Director Albert Penello, who has worked with the company for 17 years shared his thoughts about the PS5 on ResetEra forums recently. When asked if he was impressed with the PS5's technical details as shared by Sony Interactive Entertainment's Lead Architect Mark Cerny, the former executive said he was not disappointed.
"I think they are making a couple very smart moves, actually", he replied. "Remember, I never thought it was going to be much over 9tflops so I'm not disappointed," he explained. "If this thing is actually $399, I think it's a great deal," Penello pointed out.
He also stressed that at this point, he is not yet sure which console dominates the other when it comes to price. "Well Xbox has a proprietary unit, and the internal SSD is soldered on the board," So I'm not sure which is better or worse," he noted.
Other developers are also impressed with the PS5 since the "Road to PS5" event. One of them is the CTO of Ready at Dawn Andrea Pessino. The executive believes that Sony's next generation gaming console would be one of the most groundbreaking consoles within a year. "Dollar bet: within a year from its launch gamers will fully appreciate that the PlayStation 5 is one of the most revolutionary, inspired home consoles ever designed, and will feel silly for having spent energy arguing about "teraflops" and other similarly misunderstood specs," the executive said.
Sony's PS5 is confirmed to arrive sometime in the holiday of 2020.
