Raheem Sterling made his mark in the football scene when he first played for Liverpool. The 25-year-old came from the Liverpool academy and made quite an impact. This led to him being a tempting recruit for most teams. He ended up controversially moving to Manchester City but the move has paid off.
So far, City has won several titles with Sterling in tow. This includes two Premier League titles and an FA Cup. Though he started 2020 slow, the attacking midfielder is expected to get his act together and record his old form.
Starting his football career at 17, there is no denying that Sterling has a lot of playing years ahead of him, barring any injuries. It remains to be seen how long he would be kept by Manchester City or if the team would maintain his hefty pay. In 2015, he signed a contract with a £44 million. Aside from that, he got over £5 million in add-ons.
It cannot be discounted that Sterling will be courted by several teams in the coming years. That list includes his former team, Liverpool. In an Instagram post by Colossal Sports Management, the Jamaican admitted that he still has a lot of love left for his former team. Though he did not directly say that he would want to return to The Reds, most feel that there was meat in his response.
"Don’t get it twisted, they are always in my heart, do you know what I mean? ‘It’s a team that done a lot for me growing up, " Sterling said.
For those who may not be aware, it was not a peaceful exit for Sterling back in 2015. He had a public dispute with team manager Brendan Rodgers regarding his contract and wages at the time. The row did not sit well with Liverpool fans. Regardless, it appears Sterling understands the backlash but such has not changed how he felt for the place where his football success started.
Aside from Liverpool, another team that could lure Sterling is Real Madrid. Manager Zinedine Zidane admits that he is impressed by Sterling but all talk of the attacking midfielder's transfer to their side is nothing but speculation. Also, Sterling admits that anything is possible but is currently happy with Manchester City, BBC reported.
"No one knows what the future will hold. I am a player and I am always open to challenges but right now my challenge is at City and I'm really happy," Sterling said.
