Kate Middleton admitted that she felt nervous talking on her very first podcast interview. Happy Mum, Happy Baby host Giovanna Fletcher shared what really went on when she had the Duchess of Cambridge as her special guest.
Fletcher wrote in a piece for The Sun that she had asked Kate to be on her show a couple of times before. Her invitations didn't push through because Kate was suffering from extreme morning sickness the first time she asked. The second time she pitched for the Duchess of Cambridge to come to her show, Kate was busy with her royal engagements.
After two rejections, Kensington Palace apparently asked if Kate could come to Happy Mum, Happy Baby to talk about her new initiative, the 5 Big Questions for the Under Fives survey. Kensington originally allotted 10 minutes for Kate to appear in the podcast with a panel of experts. However, on the actual podcast interview, Fletcher said that she and the duchess had a full hour to talk about being moms.
Kate told Fletcher that she was quite nervous to speak on her show. Apparently, she listens to the podcast and was worried about sharing bits and pieces of her life, despite what has been written about her in the British press.
Fletcher said that they bonded over discussions about their kids. They had coffee and ginger nut biscuits while the interview was going on.
At the end of their talk, Kate apparently told Fletcher that they should keep in touch. The podcast host said that the Duchess of Cambridge has such an "endearing warmth about her." They hugged and kissed when they parted and ended the show.
In the said podcast interview, the Duchess of Cambridge opened up about the challenges of being a parent for the first time to Prince George, the third in line to the British throne. She also revealed that she practiced hypnobirthing in all of her three deliveries because it was the only thing she could control in her pregnancy.
Kate suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum during her pregnancy term, which she admitted was the toughest thing to bear. However, she said that she loved the actual process of giving birth because hypnobirthing made her relaxed and almost pain-free.
The duchess also gave Fletcher's listeners a glimpse of her childhood. She said that she had a lot of happy and meaningful experiences growing up since she had a grandmother who nurtured a love for the outdoors, for arts and crafts and getting busy in the kitchen.
Kate said that she's instilling the same values in Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. She believes it's important for very young kids to have those kinds of memories with the adults caring for them, which is what her Five Big Questions initiative is all about.
