Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially stepped down as senior royals. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex then caused quite a stir when they decided to hire the PR agency Sunshine Sachs now that Buckingham Palace will no longer handle any communications for them.
With so many PR agencies out there, many wondered why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose the one that previously represented disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein. Now, a royal expert explains the reason behind their decision.
"They'll have no office at Buckingham Palace but most interestingly they also won't be part of the royal rota. The royal rota is the way the media have access to the Royal Family,” Angela Mollard said. "Being outside of that will mean they now have to employ their own PR agency and this is very interesting. They've employed two agencies; Sunshine Sachs from the US and for the UK, they've got James Holt. Both very experienced PR agencies but very Hollywood, very celebrity. Sunshine Sachs, for instance, represented Harvey Weinstein and Michael Jackson. If you think about their history, those men needed their PR companies. I think they'll go a lot more along the George and Amal Clooney model of press representation which is pretty low key."
Meanwhile, It was previously confirmed that Queen Elizabeth supports Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to withdraw from Royal life. But just like most decisions, theirs also come with a price.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not only lose their HRH titles and the Duke of Sussex’s military title, but they will also be banned from using the word “royal” in their activities. And now that they are officially not senior royals, new details about their royal status have emerged.
"There are some very interesting facts emerging just over the past couple of hours about their future relations with the Royal Family,” journalist and broadcaster Dan Wootton said. ”Buckingham Palace or no other royal communications representatives including palace spokespeople or household representatives or royal sources will speak anymore on behalf of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Instead, they now have this PR company in the US which has previously represented people like Michael Jackson and Harvey Weinstein. They are now representing the couple."
Meghan Markle’s estranged half-sister appeared to not be impressed with the Duchess of Sussex’s decision. She even compared the former actress to Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber.
