Alisson Becker is a shining star in Liverpool but it would have been a different story had Chelsea pursued the Brazilian with greater conviction. Back in 2018, the Blues started a negotiation to bring Alisson from Roma to Stamford Bridge but Chelsea blinked for a moment and Jurgen Klopp's side did not waste the opportunity to sign the goalkeeper.

Because Chelsea hesitated, the Reds worked on a £66.8 million transfer deal for Alisson and as things turned out, the latter made the right choice and it was the same case for Klopp. The stopper boosted Liverpool's defensive wall and the club wrapped up the 2019-19 Season as the European champions.

According to 90 Min, Chelsea had wanted to land the Brazilian following the declaration by the club's then star keeper, Thibaut Courtois, that he wanted to join up with Real Madrid. The Blues were in "advanced stage" of talks with Alisson's camp and both sides were ready to finalize a deal but the suitor took a surprising pause.

Citing the information form David Ornstein of The Athletic, the report said Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia gambled on a move to Courtois to stay. The Belgian, however, had personal and professional reasons to push for a jump in La Liga so the last-minute efforts by Granovskaia proved futile.

In the end, Stamford failed to keep the club's star keeper and Alisson was lost to Liverpool. Chelsea was then forced to look elsewhere for someone to keep watch between the sticks.

The West London club turned its attention to Athletic Bilbao's Kepa Arrizabalaga, whose price tag was at £73 million. He signed with Chelsea and the first season initially showed that while the club paid a higher price compared to the transfer fee shelled out by Liverpool for Alisson, Kepa was worth the top dollar paid for him.

However, Kepa faltered in the current season that Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was forced to recall Willy Caballero to the Blues first-team. And Lampard has made clear, he is on the hunt for a new stopper, preferably with experience, Metro reported.

The turn of events proved unfavorable for Lampard's side. Chelsea's loss two years ago led to a huge gain for the Reds.

"Alisson has been a revelation for the Reds and helped Liverpool cure their defensive problems that undermined Jurgen Klopp's early work at Anfield," the report said.

In any case, Lampard is now working to correct the mistakes of the past and he has set sight in convincing Manuel Neuer to do the keeping at Stamford. It appeared though that the Bayern Munich captain has no plans to leave the Allianz Arena in the near future.
