The third installment of The Good Doctor recently concluded on ABC and delivered a shocking ending. One of the characters met his ultimate demise, while others were also being tested; leaving their fate at the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital uncertain. Since some characters may likely depart, there have been speculations that new characters may arrive to somehow fill their place in The Good Doctor season 4.
Nicholas Gonazalez's Dr. Neil Melendez tragically died in the season 3 finale, so the character is definitely not coming back in The Good Doctor season 4. In addition, it seems like Jasika Nicole will not be returning full-time as Carly in the next installment. Because of this, some speculated the series may add new characters moving forward.
That might be possible since The Good Doctor season 4 may likely want to add new faces to stir things up. Yet, the series may also opt to give the current regulars larger roles, and then add new recurring players along the way. CarterMatt noted that there's no need for a direct replacement to Dr. Melendez, as most viewers were attached to this character and there might be comparisons.
If ever a new character will be added in The Good Doctor season 4, he or she may not be a direct replacement of Dr. Melendez -- probably a new member of the staff instead. The new installment may also add someone who brings a new attitude and spirit to the hospital. Perhaps, a new face will arrive at some point to shake up the story further.
Meanwhile, the season 3 finale also hinted that Dr. Alex Park (Will Yun Lee) and Morgan Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann) might be leaving the series at some point. But then, there has been no confirmation that these two are indeed leaving. In fact, TVLine reported showrunner David Shore made it clear they have no plans on losing Dr. Park from the show.
Change is natural to a TV show, especially with a series like this give that they are working at the hospital so there would be a lot of shifting dynamics over time. Hence, viewers should be prepared for The Good Doctor season 4 as it may deliver some unexpected changes once it arrives. It's exciting to see what's next for the remaining characters, especially after everything that happened.
