As soon as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the launching of their new foundation, Archewell, netizens have shared their opinions about it. Some mocked the name of the charity while others compared it to Tom Cruise's Scientology and Gwyneth Paltrow's company Goop.

According to the couple, the name did not actually derive from the name of their son, Archie, but rather to the Greek word "Arche" which means the source of action. Apparently, Archewell is a combination of the ancient word for strength and action, and another signifies how deep the resources everyone must draw from.

However, not everyone is pleased with the new foundation name of the Sussexes. Some said it sounds like a foot care product or food dog brand. One compared it to Scientology and Goop

"The Archewell thing sounds like a mix of Scientology and Goop," a netizen commented.

Both Scientology and Goop have been controversial not only because of the Hollywood stars that are involved in its activities but also due to its practices. Scientology is a religion that has been involved in many controversies including its stance on psychiatry, allegations of mistreatment of members, predatory financial practices, and more. Among its known members are Cruise, John Travolta, Kristie Alley, Elisabeth Moss, and Laura Prepon.

Goop, on the other hand, is a wellness and lifestyle company founded by actress Gwyneth Paltrow. The company faced criticisms for marketing products and treatments that are based on pseudoscience and have been recognized by the medical establishment as harmful or misleading.

According to the British newspaper, The Telegraph, Meghan and Harry filed paperwork for Archewell last month in the United States. The couple, reportedly, is now planning how best to run the charity and accompanying website. CNN quoted a spokesperson for the couple as saying further details of the charity such as the causes it will support will be revealed when the time comes.

The announcement of Archewell came after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have officially ended their days as senior members of the royal family on March 31. It also came after Disney+ released its documentary, Elephant, which was narrated by Meghan.

As part of their exit deal, the couple is no longer allowed to use their Sussex Royal brand. Harry and Meghan posted a farewell message to their Sussex Royal Instagram account last week. They thanked everyone who supported the account and asked their supporters to keep safe amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
