Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles are about to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary on April 9 in isolation due to the recent diagnosis of the Prince of Wales. Through these years, the couple has weathered controversies and rumors. One of which was when a tabloid alleged that Prince Charles and Camilla's wedding was illegal.
The Globe published an article around this time last year alleging that the next in line to the throne and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, were about to divorce after their marriage had been "declared illegal." The tabloid claimed a judge ruled that the marriage violated a 19th-century law which states that the heir to the throne is required to get married in a Church of England ceremony, which Charles didn't do.
Prince William and Prince Harry's father was the only member of the royal family to have a civil nuptial rather than a church wedding in England. The couple had their civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall, with a subsequent religious blessing at St George's Chapel.
The Queen as the head of the Church of England did not attend the ceremony. However, she and Prince Philip attended the reception.
The judge ruling, allegedly, came after Queen Elizabeth II ordered the next king to divorce the Duchess of Cornwall. A source of the tabloid added Charles has no objection to his mother's order. In fact, the 71-year-old royal was even "thrilled" at the ruling, as this means he doesn't have to go through an expensive divorce settlement.
Gossip Cop debunked this story. The outlet also noted that Prince Charles and Camilla's marriage couldn't be declared illegal as that 19th-century law had been repealed in 1953. Moreover, the marriage was also affirmed by Parliament before it took place 15 years ago.
The couple may have been married for 15 years but their love story spans for decades when they were still in their 20s and even before Charles married Princess Diana. This year, the Prince of Wales and his wife couldn't celebrate their crystal anniversary with the rest of the royal family but they will still be together.
After spending two weeks apart following Charles' positive diagnosis for coronavirus, the couple has finally reunited. Royal fans are expected that the pair will be having a muted celebration because of the ongoing health crisis not only in England but across the globe. They would probably have a special dinner in lockdown at their Scottish home, Birkhall, in Queen's Balmoral estate.
