Borussia Dortmund gave the clearance for Jadon Sancho's summer transfer provided his price tag of £120 million is met. Of all the interested buyers, Manchester United seemed to be the most prepared to come up with the cash so the 20-year-old is likely headed to Old Trafford next season.
However, there are people around the rising Bundesliga winger that want to see him snub the offer from the Red Devils. It would be best for the youngster to head elsewhere, preferably to La Liga, or stay where he is at the moment.
The latter was the advice given by BVB skipper Marco Reus. The German said it would be best for the winger's career to play two more years in Dortmund.
"I would advise him to stay at BVB for another year, maybe two. From my point of view, there is no better place for him at the moment ... Afterwards, he can take the really big step as an even more complete player, having developed further in peace here as a regular starter," Talk Sport reported Reus as saying.
The team captain said Sancho is expected to go through an adjustment period any team that he would join after his Bundesliga spell, and he warned his teammate that it's always a smooth and easy process.
"He would have to find his place at a new club, which isn't always easy for a 20-year-old," Reus said.
He added that the benefits of gaining more experience and improving further will surely raise the stock of Sancho. And in the meantime, the youngster will help out Dortmund win titles while he increases, even more, his level of play.
Reus stressed: "Just how interesting do you think Jadon will be for the biggest clubs if he spends one, two or three years more here to develop further?"
In the same way, the entourage of Sancho is having a second thought on the player's plans of moving back to England. Metro said the youngster's camp are inclined to stop him from joining the Red Devils.
The preferred destination would be La Liga. Instead of United, the England international can make a deal with Real Madrid or Barcelona. And in doing so, the winger can increase his chance of winning the Ballon d'Or in the future.
"Sancho's representatives believe a move to Spain would aid the forward's desire to win the Ballon d'Or during his career," the report said.
True enough, in the last 20 years of the Ballon award, players based in La Liga won the honors 15 times.
However, while it might be true that in Spain Sancho will have a more illustrious career, his chance of linking up with any of Real or Barcelona has been weakened by the coronavirus outbreak.
Most clubs in Europe, particularly in La Liga and Serie A, have been hit by financial difficulties and per the same report, spending big on Sancho's transfer fee would be the last thing on their mind.
