The Lakers squad assembled for the 2020 season was for the capture of the NBA championship in the current campaign and if the team should miss the target, it will be a lost opportunity for LeBron James. A title win will be No. 4 for the superstar and most likely he'll never get another shot.

That is the assessment offered by former NBA star Jalen Rose, taking into account that the season could be lost due to the coronavirus outbreak. League officials halted the games in March when several NBA players were infected by COVID-19 and it remains unknown when the season will resume.

There were talks of a late restart and an option to voiding the entire season, and for the Lakers will mean that their efforts will end up in a drain. James signed up with the club to write history - win another ring with a team that has a tradition of multiple NBA championships.

The first season turned out a disappointment for King James so the Lakers recruited Anthony Davis and a supporting cast to better the team's chance of bringing home the Larry O'Brien. If the Lakers should miss the target, Rose is convinced this year will be the last try for King James, according to Essentially Sports.

Rose's analysis was based on the current Lakers' composition, in which the majority of the key players were hired with an explicit marching order - they must win the championship. It's quite evident that the likes of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Avery Bradley, Danny Green, and Rajon Rondo will not be with the club for the long-term.

They are around to support James and AD, and Rose stressed: "They were brought there to try to win a championship this year."

The former player went on to say that while the present Lakers will likely splinter after a season or two, the competition is expected to grow with young superstars as headliners. This will be the case for the Clippers with Kawhi Leonard then there is Luca Doncic for the Dallas Maverick and the Milwaukee Bucks with the rising juggernaut that is Giannis Antetokounmpo.

In other words, now is the time for James to win an NBA title and Rose feared that a miss by the Lakers would lead to a closed window for the superstar in the immediate years to come.

"If [the Lakers] don't get it done this year, I don't believe it happens," Clutch Points reported Rose as saying.

The claim makes sense because James is already 35 and he'll be a year older when a new season starts. Time is catching up on him and fast. Retirement could soon prevent him from wearing a new NBA ring.
