The coronavirus pandemic caused the NBA to halt the games but there is an upside and in the Clippers' case, key players got the chance to shape up like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. According to head coach Doc Rivers, the two superstars are in the best of health and ready to scoop up the 2020 championship.
Leonard, for one, has been busy beefing up due to the lockdown. In fact, the two-time NBA champion has been overworking and the results have been phenomenal, Rivers reported.
"I know Kawhi's overworking. I can guarantee you that ... The Kawhi we'll see will be in phenomenal shape," NBC Sports reported the tactician as saying.
Rivers said the forced vacation provided the Clippers players a much-needed break. Leonard used the occasion to ready his body when the season resumes and so far the result on Leonard has been inspiring, which Rivers said applies to PG as well.
"PG [Paul George] is another guy that's gonna be in phenomenal shape," said the coach, his declaration of George's recent statement that indicated his team would make use of the break to win and becoming healthier is the best preparation to achieve that goal.
With his appeared ready to clash when the season is restarted, Rivers boasted the Clippers are ready for the title run ahead.
"I will play anywhere. I will play in a house. I will play in a mouse ... I think that's how our team feels. We don't care where, when, why, what. We just want to go after our goal. I'm speaking by myself on that," said the one-time All-Star.
According to Fadeaway World, the Clippers indeed are on top of the list to capture the NBA crown. The team had registered 44 wins in 64 games before the COVID-19 spread halted the games. Leonard and company were romping on a six-game winning run, stopped on their tracks only by rival Lakers.
The Clippers are ready for a slugfest and with the break provided by the global health crisis, the team ramped up on preparedness even more. As the report stated: "The things they showed they could do with a fully healthy roster were remarkable."
Rivers claimed that his team and the tandem of Leonard and George would return better than previously seen, and it's not hard not to believe the Clippers coach. His crew, after all, is breathing down on the Lakers' neck when the season was suspended.
When the games resume, it is a foregone conclusion that the two Los Angeles clubs will engage in an epic showdown. And the winner will be the West's pride - the one to fight it out to own the 2020 NBA title.
