When Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus nearly two years ago, he left a door open for a possible return to Santiago Bernabeu, and that's according to a close pal of the Portuguese superstar. Real Madrid remains in the heart of the striker that coming back in the future is an option, said Jose Fonte.

Ronaldo's teammate claimed a homecoming for the former Galactico is not impossible because for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, a way-in is still open in case an opportunity arises.

The Juventus star leaving Turin so soon has emerged following reports from Italy that the Old Lady has been hit by financial difficulties due to the football lockdown caused by the coronavirus outbreak. To ease the money problems of the club, the option to sell Ronaldo is said to be in serious consideration.

If true that the Serie A giants will put their marquee player on the market, Sky Sports said Real Madrid is a top contender to get Ronaldo for a relatively bargain price of £50 million.

Fonte said playing for Real again should excite his Portugal teammate, noting that Ronaldo "left many, many friends there and he's always left the door open."

"I know he loves Madrid, that's for sure ... It's clear that he loves the club itself, it's one of the biggest clubs in the world, if not the biggest," Fonte was reported as saying.

Ronaldo making his way back to Spain is not a bad thing for him and the Los Blancos. The 35-year-old has accomplished great things with Real. His nearly a decade of spell at the Bernabeu saw the football club winning four Champions League crowns and two La Liga titles.

For his personal glory, Ronaldo's total goals of 450 made him the Spanish giants all-time scoring champion and most importantly, it is with the Madrid that saw Ronaldo winning four of his five Ballon d'Or trophies. So the two getting back together would seem to be mutually beneficial.

However, Real seemed already past the point of reigniting the good old days with the club's former star. According to The Sun, the Spanish side has moved on from Ronaldo and now believes "his time has passed."

The side of Zinedine Zidane is more focused on attracting younger players to Bernabeu, specifically World Cup winners Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba.

Mbappe is thought to be leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and Pogba is tipped to do the same, ready to walk away from Manchester United. Instead of getting back the 35-year-old Ronaldo, Zidane would prefer spending big money on the two French gems, the report said.
