Prince Charles and Princess Diana officially tied the knot in 1981. The royal wedding was deemed to be one of the most "idyllic," lavish, and iconic weddings of all time. In fact, others used to claim that it was a "fairytale-like."

However, it is common knowledge already that their relationship and marriage was far from a fairytale. It was an "unhappy" union as seen by the rest of the world.

Several analysts and experts noted that aside from the Princess of Wales' young age of 20 when she tied the knot, the Prince of Wales' affection for his former partner and now-wife, Camilla, was also accounted for the failed marriage. It was revealed that despite the late princess' efforts, the Queen's son had an affair.

By 1992, the royal couple separated. It took years, though, before their divorce was finalized. It was only in 1996 when Princess Diana ultimately obtained her "freedom," just a year before her tragic accident.

According to Express UK, however, several sources shared that there was a time in 1992 when Prince Charles and his first wife "nearly reconciled." It was also said that if only that happened, they might still be together after.

Former royal protection officer, Ken Wharfe, reportedly attested that there were several instances when the late Princess of Wales was "looking for opportunities" to "patch" things up with her "estranged husband." But, among all these instances, the one in 1992 when she invited the Prince of Wales for a skiing holiday with their two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, was the most crucial.

He stated that it was a surprise when she invited the Prince to come over. So, it was a clear indication that she was planning to have a talk with her husband.

However, Princess Diana's father, John Spencer, died. Unfortunately, it reportedly became a "missed opportunity" for the late princess to reconcile with Prince Charles. Sources claimed that if it not for her father's death, they might have gotten back together then.

Another royal analyst, Petronella Wyatt stated that despite their separation, the late Princess remained "in love" with her husband. She said that several individuals in the couple's circle admitted that they knew about it.

It was also claimed that even when Princess Diana had relationships after their separation, none of it was serious. So, it was believed that she remained in love with Prince Charles even on her last breath.
