The Handmaid's Tale season 4 may not be coming anytime soon on Hulu, considering the global health crisis happening around the world at the moment. The Elizabeth Moss-led series shuts down its production due to the COVID-19 outbreak, so viewers may need to wait for a while before seeing the show back on the small screen.

Prior to the health crisis, it was expected that The Handmaid's Tale season 4 is arriving in fall 2020. The series has started filming last month, but the production was halted later on -- just like other television shows. Right now, there is no official confirmation as to when the fourth installment is released, especially since there's no announcement when will filming resume.

It can be noted that the first two seasons premiered in April 2017 and 2018, respectively, while the third installment arrived in June 2019. The exact release date of The Handmaid's Tale season 4 is hard to predict, given that it doesn't follow a certain schedule pattern. Yet, since the series halted its production, there's a chance it will be arriving in late 2020 or early 2021 instead.

The series doesn't roll out all episodes at once but are still other factors that need to be considered -- including editing, scoring, and preparing an episode close to perfection. The Handmaid's Tale season 4 also needs to match the quality of the first three seasons. Despite the apparent long wait, a lot of interesting stories are coming once the new installment arrives.

Just like the first season, the latest one will reportedly have 10 episodes as well. As for what we cant expect, season 3 finale left a huge cliffhanger, with June's fate hanging up in the air. It remains to be seen whether or not she's alive, but TV Guide reported that the character probably survived.

Executive producer Bruce Miller didn't confirm if June survived the gunshot, but hinted the likelihood of the character being alive. Moss will also direct one of the episodes of the new season. Reportedly, the actress takes behind the camera for episode 3, which marks her directorial debut.

Meanwhile, the good news is that The Handmaid's Tale season 4 may not be the final one for the series, as executive producer Warren Littlefield revealed during the Television Critics Association winter press tour that they aren't writing season 4 as the series finale. There are still a lot of stories that needed to be explored, so the series will likely come back for more in the future.
