The Last Kingdom season 4 is arriving later this month on Netflix. The series has been off-air for more than a year, so many were excited to see the characters returning on the streaming platform. The historical drama is based on The Saxon Stories novel saga by Bernard Cornwell, and the upcoming installment continues following Uhtred's (Alexander Dreymon) story and journey.

Uhtred is a Saxon-born but Viking-raised warrior. He became right-hand-man, a mortal enemy, and a cherished friend of King Alfred (David Dawson) in the first three seasons. Now, The Last Kingdom season 4 will take place after King Alfred's death. The new installment also proved to be a notable one, as it will see the arrival of several new characters.

Stefanie Martini will be playing the role of Eadith, Aethelred of Mercia's mistress. Another new character is Eadith's brother, Eardwulf (Jamie Blackley), the commander of Aethelred's household guards. In Cornwell's books, Martini's character is described as beautiful and intelligent, while Eardwulf is described as dangerous, ambitious, handsome, clever, and a rival for Uhtred.

Ruby Hartley plays Stiorra, Uhtred's daughter, in The Last Kingdom season 4. She's physically described as tall and lithe with her mother's long face and grave expression in the books. Stiorra also knows how to wield swords and has a love interest -- another new character named Sigtryggr Ivarsson, played by Eysteinn Sigudarson.

Ossian Perret also joins the upcoming installment, playing the role of Wihtgar. No further detail is shared about the character, but he will have a regular role this season. Meanwhile, Finn Elliot will be playing the Young Uhtred in the flashbacks, which will likely take us to a pre-Paganism Uhtred. Originally, Tom Taylor played Young Uhtred in the first episode of the series.

Other new characters this season also include Helena Albright as Aelfwynn, Aethelflaed's now around 10-12 years old daughter. Oscar Skagerberg also joins the series playing the role of Bjorgulf. Meanwhile, The Last Kingdom season 4 will also introduce a character who isn't from the novels. Mate Haumann will be playing the role of Cenric, probably a man of Wessex or Mercia.

It remains to be seen whether he's a foe or an ally of Uthred. There were also speculations that Cenric works with Unthred's uncle Elfric, who was last seen in season 2. It's apparent that Cenric wouldn't just be on the sidelines of the stories, as he could be playing an essential role moving forward.

The Last Kingdom season 4 drops all its new episodes on Sunday, Apr. 26, on Netflix.
