As the subject of transfer speculations, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has to make a decision in the summer to stick it out with the Gunners or play football elsewhere. However, an Arsenal legend is telling the Gabon international that career-wise, his best bet would be an extended stay at the Emirates.

According to Paul Merson, the Arsenal captain will do well staying where he is now because "there are not a lot of trophies to win." The former attacker for the Gunners shared his thought on the talks that Aubameyang will make use of the summer transfer window to look for a new club where he could win trophies.

The team skipper joined the Mikel Arteta's side in 2018 and has so far scored 61 goals in 97 appearances but a title win remains elusive for the striker. His sterling performances from Borussia Dortmund to the Premier League made him one of the best in his class, which is the same reason Aubameyang is hot on the radar of elite clubs in Europe.

Still, Merson is recommending that the Arsenal stick with the North London club where he is sure of sustaining his success so far with the possibility of soon lifting a silverware.

"I was very fortunate to play for Arsenal for a long time and make no mistake about it, it's a great club. The grass is not always greener on the other side, you have got to be careful. Aubameyang is at an age now where he will play every week for Arsenal," Metro reported the Gunners hero as saying.

There would only be uncertainty out there and Merson pointed out that should Aubameyang is acquired by Manchester United, his security with the club will hinge on how he would fare on the pitch.

"If he goes to, say, Manchester United or somewhere else, four or five bad games and you are out of the team," the former midfielder warned.

And Merson reminded the Arsenal star: "He is at one of the best clubs in the world, a phenomenal football club that has as much chance as anybody."

Meanwhile, the Gabon Football Association has called on Aubameyang to make the jump and pick a new club where the chance of winning titles will be greater.

"I don't want to say that Arsenal aren't ambitious, but Arsenal don't have ambitions as high as some other clubs as far as Europe is concerned ... If Pierre could secure a contract with a more ambitious club, he'd definitely find his place there," BBC reported Gabon FA president Pierre Alain Mounguengui as saying.

Mounguengui made the call as Aubameyang is reported to be a target acquisition by Barcelona and Inter Milan. But Arteta has already indicated that he intends to keep his top player in England at all costs.
