Last week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed their new foundation Archewell. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared that they were inspired by the word “Arche” for their new foundation, which is also the name of their son.
However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s key error led internet trolls to make fun of the Archewell Foundation website. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex forgot to register the domain name of their new non-profit empire and these trolls hijacked several potential domain names that the couple will use, such as archewellfoundation and archewellcharity.
"We will surrender this domain upon the immediate and safe return of Prince Henry Charles Albert David, Duke of Sussex to Her Majesty's United Kingdom,” a message was posted on the archewellcharity.com website.
The pranksters are clearly updated with news about Prince Harry as it was recently reported that the Duke of Sussex dropped his royal surname. The younger brother of Prince William registered his name as Prince Henry Charles Albert David, Duke of Sussex in the registration documents for a new sustainable tour firm Travalyst, which was the name used by the trolls on the website.
Pranksters also took advantage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s mistake by redirecting the Archewell Foundation website to Kanye West's “Gold Digger” music video.
However, these are not the only issues that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing regarding their new charity. Many were not impressed with the name “Archewell” with some comparing it to two controversial brands such as Tom Cruise’s religion and Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness and lifestyle company.
"The Archewell thing sounds like a mix of Scientology and Goop,” one wrote. "Archewell is... just a really terrible name. It doesn’t make sense. Are any branding and PR people actually giving advice or being listened to?" another one shared. "#Archewell sounds like a foot care product people would put in their shoes," one Twitter user wrote. Some also said that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new foundation name sounds like “dog food” and a “City Hedge Fund.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle previously explained that “Arche” is a Greek word that means a source of action.
“We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son's name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters,” the couple said. “Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon."
