BLACKPINK's DDU DU DDU DU became the first Kpop idol MV to reach 1.1 billion views on YouTube. The milestone was achieved by the YG Entertainment girl group on March 24 and has since added another 17 million to its views since then.
It seems that BLINKs have been diverting their frustration on BLACKPINK's delayed comeback into something productive by rewatching old MVs of Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rose on YouTUbe, Hello Kpop reported.
It was a pastime that paid off because not only did BLINKs break another record on the streaming platform, they also highlighted the delay in BLACKPINK's comeback as more fans began to question the holdup.
It can be recalled that BLACKPINK's last comeback was in April 2019 with Kill This Love. While the song became a global hit and led BLACKPINK to sold-out stages for their Your Area World Tour, fans were unhappy that YG did not exert any effort to deliver fresh material from Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rose when other girl groups were releasing multiple comebacks a year.
Last year, there were plenty of rumors about BLACKPINK's comeback, especially with Ariana Grade's Thank You, Next producer, Tommy Brown teasing that he flew to Korea to work with BLACKPINK. Fans were also excited about rumors of BLACKPINK working with DJ Snake for collaboration but it never materialized because of scheduling conflicts.
Late last year, YG announced that BLACKPINK was finally working on a comeback that would be released within the first quarter and it seemed like plans were set to release the new album by March. However, with the Coronavirus pandemic plaguing different parts of the world, including South Korea, the label opted to delay the comeback again and reschedule to an indefinite date.
Still, the Coronavirus pandemic has not stopped other Kpop idols from releasing comeback materials. April is filled with scheduled comebacks from other female idols like APINK, G(I-DLE), GIRLKIND, April, Chungha, Oh My Girl and GWSN, adding to the frustration of BLINKs all over the world, Kpopmap reported.
Apart from BLACKPINK's comeback, fans are also waiting for YG Entertainment to fulfill its promise of releasing solo debuts from Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa.
Former YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk said that after Jennie's solo debut release, the label will be working on the remaining members' solo materials next but apart from Rose's statement that she was working hard on her album, no updates have been released by the agency since the last year.
