Tottenham star Harry Kane long occupies a spot on Manchester United's list of transfer targets. To be sure, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the striker on his roster, as the goalscorer is prized for his consistency. If the England captain gives a hint, the Red Devils will waste no time to swoop in.
A little push is what Solskjaer is looking for. On his part, the Norwegian is reported keen to make Kane part of his strike force, but the United board is wary that negotiating with the Spurs again could prove frustrating.
In the past, attempts made by United on the former Tottenham stars such as Gareth Bale and Luka Modric turned out futile, according to Metro. This time, the club wants to make sure that United's interest in Kane will lead to a positive result.
That is saying that if possible, the Red Devils will want "Kane to provide a further indication that a move would be realistic before spending time on signing the forward."
In recent weeks, Kane had indicated that an exit from Tottenham is possible because part of his career plan is to win trophies. The 26-year-old said if a title win would look impossible for the Spurs, then he is prepared to move on.
Those were big words, but it appears Solskjaer is looking for a more convincing sign that his signing target is ready to move. The bid on Kane, after all, will not be cheap as the price tag set by Tottenham has to be no lower than £200 million.
However, ESPN reported the possibility is there that Tottenham will be compelled to lower the demand and ask for a more reasonable £100 million for Kane. There will be hard times ahead, and football clubs will not be spending too much in the next transfer window, so reality dictates the Spurs and United agree on significantly lower terms.
Kane becoming more affordable though, will not seal the deal. United is also eyeing to acquire Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho, and for the sake of good finances, Solskjaer will need to pick who to take.
"United would attempt to sign both players, but even in normal times, it would stretch the finances of a club of their stature to spend a minimum of £200m on two forwards during the same transfer window," according to ESPN.
So to be wise, it has to be a toss between Kane and Sancho. If the latter is the pick, he has been remarkable in Bundesliga and is regarded as a fast-rising star. The winger is only 20 and promises at least a decade of shooting for titles, which could prove successful on many occasions.
With Kane as the choice, he has proven that he can deliver at a steady pace. But United will need to consider that Kane's injury woes resulted in too many missed games, which could be a problem for Solskjaer.
