The Cupertino tech juggernaut first introduced the Apple Watch in the market in 2015. But, like all other products, there are multiple prototypes that every company makes before coming up with the commercial version. Interestingly, A collector was able to get all six of what seems to be the original and rare prototypes of the Apple Watch.
On the social networking site Twitter, a user named Giulio Zompetti, who is both a collector and a developer, shared to Motherboard that he bought six of the early prototypes of the Apple Watch. The 27-year-old developer from Northern Italy revealed that he is planning to fix the prototypes and sell them. According to the site, Zompetti has a history of collecting rare prototype of Apple products and believes that these are authentic ones.
The site gives credence to the collector's photos of the prototypes of Apple Watch. It says that "the markings, QR codes, and logos on them are reminiscent of prototype iPhones Motherboard has seen and used in the past." unfortunately, Zompetti did not reveal how he acquired the rare Apple Watch prototypes, but this is not the case where the prototypes were left behind by an Apple engineer.
According to AppleInsider, the rare Apple Watch prototypes must have come from an e-waste facility. While these alleged Apple watch prototypes are all broken, Motherboard says that they could still be fixed. However, currently, none of the prototypes are beginning to show sufficient information so we could obtain any resemblances or differences in the software.
The rare Apple Watch prototypes, however, come with enough markings that prove that they are indeed prototypes. Moreover, they have ample differences in their shipping model, which further supports the collector's claim. Zompetti also revealed to Motherboard that crucial components in the rare Apple Watch prototypes are still there, and he thinks he could still repair them.
The rare Apple Watch prototypes are reminders to us all of how far the Apple Watch has evolved when it comes to specs, features, and capabilities. What the Cupertino tech giant pioneered as a fashion statement transformed into an everyday wearable and later even became a lifesaver to some users. One analyst earlier claimed that if the Wearable segment was an independent company, it would be included in the list of Fortune 200 companies.
The Cupertino tech giant is anticipated to launch the Apple Watch Series 6 anytime this year. Rumors have it that aside from the ECG software, the upcoming wearable from Apple might feature a sleep tracker.
