Daniel Dae Kim's Cassian Shin may still be around once New Amsterdam season 3 arrives on NBC. There is a chance to see more of the character, given that he's new to the series. His story will likely be explored, and it looks like he and Dr. Helen Sharpe will likely have a potential relationship moving forward.
In the closing minutes of season 2 finale, the series featured Cassian and Sharpe smiling happily at each other. Creator and executive producer David Schulner teased that this particular scene viewers' saw may continue in New Amsterdam season 3.
In an interview with TV Guide, Schulner discussed what's next for Sharpe and Cassian in New Amsterdam season 3, hinting they're going to become a thing. He noted that the two are good for each other, and it would be great for Sharpe to see that "Max's way isn't the only way."
Sharpe and Max will likely be drifting away from each other and their stalled affections could set up drama moving forward. Things could get even more complicated as Max may witness Cassian and Sharpe dating from the sidelines; bringing more conflict moving forward. Her newfound friendship could impact her bond with Max in a huge way.
But, according to Schulner, Max still respects Cassian despite their potential clash, as well as their conflicting philosophies. And as for Sharpe and Max, things could further change between them in the upcoming installment, especially since there is a new person who likely captures Sharpe's attention.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether or not Kim will be a series regular in New Amsterdam season 3. But although his character only has a recurring role, his presence will still surely be felt in the future. In addition, many were also delighted to see the actor appearing in the medical drama series.
As for the potential release date, NBC is yet to announce when New Amsterdam season 3 will arrive on the network. There could be a long hiatus this time as the cast and crew will not be able to film the new episodes of the series in New York City.
There are a lot of things to consider, particularly the current global health crisis. And since there is a potential delay, there may not be enough time for the new season to meet its fall premiere date. But, the good news is that the series is coming back for more as NBC renewed it through season 5.
