Princess Beatrice has confirmed that her May 29 wedding to fiancé Edo Mozzi has been canceled. A spokesperson for the couple announced the sad news as the United Kingdom also confirmed it will stay in lockdown for three more weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The spokesperson told People that Princess Beatrice and Edo are not going to switch venues in light of the new order. The couple are apparently not thinking of their wedding during this time and will make rearrangements when the right time comes.

The source also said that Princess Beatrice and Edo have yet to send out their wedding invitations. In March, Buckingham Palace canceled all engagements, including garden events, until the foreseeable future.

Princess Beatrice and Edo were supposed to have their wedding reception at the palace as a gift from Queen Elizabeth. Following the cancellation, the couple have been holding off their wedding plans while keeping tabs of the developments amid the pandemic.

The source also said that Princess Beatrice has been realistic about the potential changes. The friend said that the last thing on the York royal's mind was to be stressed over her wedding plans when there is a global crisis to focus on.

According to reports, the U.K. government decided to extend the lockdown because the infection rate among coronavirus patients have not yet gone down. To date, there are over 13,000 cases and more than 860 deaths.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who struggled with COVID-19 a few weeks ago, is still recovering. Deputizing in his place is the Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, who said that the U.K. will not rush with lifting their safety measures.

Princess Beatrice's wedding plans have been marred by other delays on top of the coronavirus crisis. Following their engagement announcement in September 2019, the couple had to push back their wedding plans because of the controversy hounding Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice's father.

The York royal had to scale down her wedding preparations in light of the backlash against her father. She ended up planning a much smaller wedding with about 150 guests only, as opposed to the usual lavish royal weddings with over 800 guests.

The wedding cancellation, however, could be a blessing in disguise as Princess Beatrice plan for a 2021 affair that will no longer have any restrictions. At any rate, her mother, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, said that she has never seen Princess Beatrice so happy with Edo despite the pandemic affecting her wedding.
