Prince William and Kate Middleton granted a rare interview to talk about their biggest concerns in this pandemic. The Cambridge couple are currently in isolation with their kids at Anmer Hall but they have been doing a lot of video calls.
One of these video calls was an interview with BBC Breakfast, which aired on television Friday. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge told the show that they are most focused and concerned about mental health issues while everyone is asked to stay at home and isolate from social gatherings.
Prince William said that there should be a "vital tool and a vital service" to help people mind their mental well-being. The Duke of Cambridge said that it's still important to stay connected and stay positive amid this coronavirus pandemic.
Thus, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge promoted their initiative Every Mind Matters, where people can receive urgent support if they cannot see a doctor for their mental health issues. The site also provides some tips and ideas on how to cope if some people are challenged by difficult circumstances, especially during this crisis.
For their own mental health, Prince William and Kate said that they have been keeping in touch with family through video conferencing calls. The royals have been isolating in different parts of the U.K., while Prince Harry is across the pond in Los Angeles.
Kate also shared that it can get difficult and overwhelming to be in quarantine for many weeks with young children. The royal parents admitted that things have been "challenging" at their house.
Meanwhile, Prince William also opened up about his concerns for his father, Prince Charles, who was diagnosed in late March as positive for coronavirus. Prince Charles showed very mild symptoms of COVID-19 but Prince William said that he still worried about how his father had to stay in isolated in his room.
The Duke of Cambridge said that he also worried for his father's mental health while in isolation since Prince William loves walking outdoors most of all. It's a good thing, however, that the Prince of Wales recovered from COVID-19 after a week.
Meanwhile, royal expert Roya Nikkhah said that Prince William and Kate are staying visible to the public amid this crisis to ascertain that the monarchy stays relevant. Nikkhah also said that the Cambridges succeeded in showing the world that, despite their royal status, they are also going through the same challenges and emotions as regular people during this pandemic.
