Prince Harry is going to return to the royal family and will be embraced by Queen Elizabeth once he does. A royal expert said that the Queen sees her grandson as the "prodigal son" after he asked to be released from his royal duties effective March 31.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward said in an interview with Sky News that the Queen's religious background figures a lot into her feelings for Prince Harry. Seward said that the Queen might feel sad about losing her grandson privately, and she will likely not share her feelings even to close family members.
However, the expert said that Queen Elizabeth has hopes that Prince Harry will come home and she will welcome him with open arms. While he is out of their royal protection, however, the Queen will also hold off on criticizing his grandson.
"The one thing that has really carried the Queen through her long life is her Christianity, her deep religious beliefs," Seward said. "One of the Christian teaching is forgiveness."
To outsiders, Prince Harry's relationship with his grandmother might have been soiled because he chose to drop his royal duties over his personal happiness. But reports have shown that this might not be the case.
On April 21, as the Queen turned 94 years old, Prince Harry, his wife, Meghan Markle, and their son Archie Harrison, had a video chat with their grandmother, according to Town & Country. While he was in London in early March, it was also reported that he spent a good amount of time bonding with Queen Elizabeth over lunch.
Prince Harry also told his new team in Los Angeles, where he is launching a new foundation with Meghan, that "the throne is off limits." He made it clear that they will not be accepting any job offers or ventures that will mock the royal family or put the Queen in an uncomfortable position.
Sources said that Prince Harry doesn't want to do anything that will be "detrimental to the Queen." He doesn't want any media war or bad blood with his grandmother especially now that he wants to strike it on his own as a non-working member of the royal family.
Prince Harry's new arrangement with Queen Elizabeth, as he steps back from his royal life, will be reviewed after 12 months. Sources said that the Queen wanted this safety net in case Prince Harry and Meghan figure out that they belong as working royals.
The Queen also told her grandson that he and his family will always be welcomed back if they decide to resume their royal roles and become royal public servants again. Queen Elizabeth also reportedly assured her grandson that he is much loved by the family.
