Meghan Markle gave a pep talk and some motivation to a young woman who was preparing for a job interview. The Duchess of Sussex did the video call for Smart Works, one of the charities she supports, which helps women land jobs.
A post on Smart Works' Twitter account showed parts of Meghan's video call with the young woman, which happened on March 27. The Duchess of Sussex commended her for being confident and prepared.
"When I was reading about what your interests are and, especially, you have a big focus in mental health as well, right? Psychology? I think that's excellent," Meghan said. "I just wanted to be able to call in and tell you best of luck and my fingers are crossed for you."
Meghan also told the young Smart Works talent that, with so much going on in the world, she can be a beacon of hope and positivity. She encouraged her to focus on getting through the interview because she has a wonderful opportunity in her hands.
The Duchess of Sussex became the Smart Works patron in January 2019. She worked with the charity in September of that same year to launch its first fashion collection for the working women.
A statement from Meghan's Los Angeles team said via USA Today that the Duchess of Sussex has been "keeping in touch with her patronages" and the charities that are important to her in this pandemic crisis. In the middle of April, Meghan also had a video chat with the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen, which helps deliver food to families in need in this public health crisis.
Meghan has been staying in quarantine at her home in Los Angeles with Prince Harry and their son, Archie Harrison. The Sussex pair have also been doing a few charity works around the city but they still have to observe social distancing. They were spotted delivering meals to people with chronic illness in West Hollywood for the Project Angel Food charity.
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are celebrating the first birthday of their son while in isolation. Archie is turning one year old on May 6 but he won't have a grand birthday party due to the social distancing orders.
Instead, the Sussex family are going to quietly have their own scaled-down birthday party of Archie. They will also likely video chat with friends and family as they won't be able to fly back to London just yet.
