Mertz teased that viewers will find out even more in-depth in This Is Us season 5. It may also be explored why she decided not to use food but use substance instead. The actress then said that her character has been through some things that viewers haven't and don't know yet.
There are still a lot of years the series hasn't explored as of yet, so some secrets from Kate's past might be uncovered along the way. At the moment, there's no guarantee that Marc is really out of the picture, as there could probably be more about this story.
There's also a possibility that something happened to Kate that caused her a huge change in the flash-forward. She's gone through a lot of battles, and based on Mertz's words, her character's struggles might be one of the central stories of This Is Us season 5.
CarterMatt also noted there are speculations there's a weight-loss reveal for Kate in the flash-forward. Reportedly, that's one of the reasons why the producers chose not to show the character as of yet. But then, nothing is confirmed about that matter right now.
As for what else is possibly coming in This Is Us season 5, Jack's storyline is still interesting to explore. Although his future is already certain, there are still a lot of questions when it comes to his life in the past. So, will his story be still included in the next installment?
It's yet to be seen whether or not Milo Ventimiglia's character will still appear in the new season. The series has already revealed his time in Vietnam, how he met Rebecca, and how he died. Most of his storyline has been explored, yet there's still a lot of things worth-exploring in his life.
For instance, Jack may appear to help his son Kevin reflects in his life. Some flashback scenes about Kevin's past might be featured. He may also deal with his father's death differently now, as he'll probably realize how he and Jack spent their time before.
