BTS will indeed return on ARMY's viewing screen as they promised during their BangBang Con last month. Aside from their seventh-year anniversary, the Korean superstars will be among the commencement speakers in YouTube's Dear Class of 2020 special in June along with former U.S. President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
YouTube Originals dropped a reminder notice for the upcoming Dear Class of 2020 special event on Tuesday along with the names of its commencement speakers and other guest stars. The virtual graduation ceremony will feature inspiring leaders in the field of public service, education, technology, entertainment, and more.
Aside from the Obamas and BTS, the list of commencement speakers also includes Lady Gaga, Senator Robert M. Gates, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, and Google and Alphabet Inc. CEO Sundar Pichai. The special event is a project of YouTube in partnership with Michelle Obama's Reach Higher Initiative, LadyGaga's Born This Way Foundation, Malala Fund, NBC's Today, and Ideas United.
The Dear Class of 2020 will showcase the stories of the graduates around the world and will also feature traditional graduation-day themes. BTS is also reportedly set to perform at a virtual grad night after-party.
ARMY is celebrating the latest achievement of the record-breaking septet. Many fans took to Twitter to share their excitement that the "ON" hitmakers will be working with the Obamas and other trailblazers in different fields.
Some posted memes of BTS members along with the Obamas. One shared a meme of RM shaking the hand of former President Obama while another posted a GIF of Suga tossing his mic at the end of "Mic Drop" side by side with Obama's mic drop clip from the White House Correspondents' dinner in 2016.
Many ARMYs are also anticipating that the Dear Class of 2020 will break YouTube records. Millions are expected to tune in to the multi-hour special as two of the most beloved personalities on social media, Barack Obama and BTS, will be joining forces to celebrate with this year's graduates and their families even while staying at home.
The Dear Class of 2020 is set to premiere on June 6 at 12 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. ET on the YouTube Originals channel and YouTube's Learn@Home site. The online video-sharing platform is also encouraging the 2020 graduates to sign their name and their school on the Dear Class of 2020 shout out board here.
