9-1-1 season 3 finale is set to arrive next week on Fox, with the title "What's Next?" A lot of big and unexpected moments are coming in this episode and may also question some of the characters' future within the show. Is there a chance to see some of them departing as the season ends?
Athena's future is in question in 9-1-1 season 3 finale and the promo further teased she's seemingly done with her job. The character has been through a lot, putting her life in jeopardy to save others. Now, it looks like she's going to make a huge decision when it comes to her future.
It only makes sense Athena's contemplating leaving her job, yet she may recognize the importance of it in her life in the end. She may probably realize that the city would be a little less secure and safe if she is not out there.
There's a possibility Athena chooses to stay rather than leaving, especially since she is one of the most essential characters in the series. It would be hard to see the show moving forward without the presence of Angela Bassett's character.
As for the other potential departure in 9-1-1 season 3 finale, the episode may see Hen thinking about her future as well. It seems like she's considering going to medical school; a big decision she has to figure out. While it's nice to see her moving into a different path, it's also nice seeing her sticking around.
But aside from these, the upcoming episode will feature a huge and dangerous event. The synopsis notes: "The 118 rush to save lives in the aftermath of a massive train derailment." It's clear that some lives are in serious danger and this incident could impact the series moving forward.
The train derailment is at the center of everything in this episode and it proved to be bold and chaotic. The promo teased that most of the characters are doing their best to help those involved in the accident. Perhaps, this could also leave huge cliffhangers, as well as unexpected twists and turns.
Meanwhile, Connie Britton also returns as Abby. She had a conversation with Maddie in the previous episode and the character will still be part of the upcoming hour. While her come back is just temporary, the series is a bit nostalgic with her presence.
9-1-1 season 3 finale airs on Monday night, May 11, on Fox.
