ABC hasn't yet officially renewed The Conners season 3 as of this writing, yet many believe the series will be renewed rather than being canceled. When it comes to the future of some of the characters, there have been concerns and questions with Katey Sagal's Louise.
Sagal was still part of the season 2 finale, but her fate in The Conners season 3 is in question. It can be noted that her status on the ABC sitcom is complicated as she's set to having a pilot in Rebel on the same network. That only means her schedule may not be flexible at all.
But, the good news is that Louise may still appear in the potential The Conners season 3. Although the schedule could be a challenge, showrunner Bruce Helford revealed to TVLine how her appearance could be possible and how they could make it work.
Helford told the outlet that Sagal is still open to doing more of The Conners, although they don't know her complete availability. But because of the current global health crisis, her ABC pilot was never shot. The showrunner further noted Rebel would probably take longer to get on its feet than The Conners.
Even though The Conners season 3 wasn't yet officially renewed, Helford teased that they'll be back shooting in August. Rebel, on the other hand, would likely shoot further down the road. Hence, Sagal's Louise may still appear, at least, in the first half of the third installment.
Once the new season arrives, there's still a chance to see Dan and Louise spending some time, especially now that they're a full-pledge couple. And as for Sagal, CarterMatt noted the sitcom is an easy show to do since it films with a live audience, so it may not complicate the actress' schedule.
Meanwhile, going back to the renewal status of The Conners season 3, nothing is confirmed at the moment but signs point it's coming back for sure. The series has a dedicated audience and it's one of the strongest comedy shows airing on ABC when it comes to ratings.
Perhaps, the real-life health crisis is one of the reasons why the renewal wasn't yet announced. The COVID-19 pandemic is likely holding up the official renewal, given that a lot of people are being displaced from their jobs. Because of this, negotiations become challenging.
A lot of series halted their productions, same goes with the renewal announcements. For The Conners season 3, it might be announced within a few weeks. Yet, filming may not immediately start and the arrival of the new installment might be delayed.
