Riverdale season 5 is officially happening on The CW and there have been some details about the upcoming installment. Since the previous season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some episodes that weren't filmed will likely be part of the new season.

Prom and graduation ceremony are just some of the stories that could be featured once Riverdale season 5 premieres. These are significant moments to the life of the characters and it would be nice to see them celebrating such events.

Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed what viewers can expect in Riverdale season 5. When asked whether or not the new installment will feature prom and graduation, he teased that those events would get tacked on.

Aguirre-Sacasa said that prom and graduation are big events, and they've already written episodes 21 and 22. He revealed that these two episodes are "emotional" and "big," and there's still a lot of stuff that would playout for the characters moving forward.

Riverdale season 5 may premiere with the last three episodes that weren't aired in the fourth installment. Aguirre-Sacasa noted that the teens are in high school for four years, so they don't want to take graduation away from them. Thus, they'll pick up where they left off for the first three episodes.

Meanwhile, when it comes to the status of Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols, Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed that these two will be back to finish their arc. It has been previously confirmed they're leaving the series after season 4, but because the series halted its production, their exits have been delayed.

The executive producer said Ulrich and Nichols' characters will be back in Riverdale season 5 to give them a great sendoff. The two have been part of the series since the beginning, yet Aguirre-Sacasa didn't tease how F.P. and Hermione will depart from the series. But, he said neither of them will be killed.

As for the release date of Riverdale season 5, nothing is certain at the moment. Although the series has been already renewed, there are still uncertainties when it comes to its future, particularly the filming. Because of the current global health crisis, some things might be delayed.

From season 2 until season 4, the series premieres in October. If ever, the new installment may arrive around that month, as well. However, everything all depends on the situation, as the cast and crew may start filming once the situation goes back to normal.
