The New Mutants might be one of the most delayed films in movie history. Although the X-Men spin-off was initially expected to premiere in April 2018, the premiere has been pushed back repeatedly in the past two years. At first, there were concerns that the Josh Boone film would never get a theatrical release. However, Disney has finally given the movie a new release date in late 2020.

It has been a long and frustrating journey for The New Mutants, which was first filmed back in 2017. Back then, the movie was expected to premiere in 2018 but it needed to be pushed back due to reshoots. Once the film was ready, it encountered another obstacle as Disney was in the process of acquiring 20th Century Fox. When the House of Mouse finally opted to release the X-Men spin-off in April 2020, it was once again delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Interestingly, the demand for The New Mutants' release never really died down. At one point, fans begged Disney to simply allow the film to be available for streaming on Disney+ when it was announced that another ill-fated movie Artemis Fowl would go straight into digital. On the other hand, the House of Mouse seems determined to give the movie its well-deserved theatrical release.

A new report confirms that The New Mutants is now expected to premiere in August. This seems like an acceptable move considering that theaters are set to be open again in July. However, people are still concerned that the new release date might be too hopeful and could force the movie to be moved back yet again. For now, the new date is confirmed until further notice.

The demand for The New Mutants recently got greater after several images from the film were revealed. Interestingly, one of the photos showed Majik going up against Demon Bear in what appears to be Limbo. Additionally, there is a terrifying look at the Smiley Men, the villains that are also set to show up in the movie.

The New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone and stars Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair aka Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy of The Witch as Ilyana Rasputin aka Majik, Stranger Things' Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball and Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar aka Mirage. They will be joined by City of God actress Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes and 13 Reasons Why actor Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot. It is currently scheduled to premiere on August 28.
