Prince William is currently the second person in line to the British Throne. Next to his father, he will become the King of the United Kingdom in due time.

As years pass by, many individuals have continued to notice how he has been preparing for his future position. Alongside Kate Middleton, he has become one of the most popular British royals in recent times.

With Queen Elizabeth II's increasing age, the public could not help but, wonder what will happen if she dies. Although the obvious answer would be Prince Charles stepping up to take her place, a lot of royal fans and supporters, reportedly, questions whether the Crown could skip generations.

Several reports noted that the public's curiosity about the matter is not largely about whether they deem the Prince of Wales fitting or not to become the next ruler. Rather, this is more about his old age since he is turning 72-years-old already.

According to Express UK, Prince William's father has spent most of his life waiting next in line. As his mother continues to reign, this means that he also continues to weight in his post.

But, regardless of their ages and length of the waiting period, the publication emphasized that Prince Charles has remained as the heir of Queen Elizabeth II. Under the "common law," he will become the King of the United Kingdom when the Queen abdicates or passes away.

Accordingly, this will also, reportedly, apply to Prince William's case. He can only become the head of the British Monarchy when his father passes away or chooses to abdicate.

In a similar argument posed by BBC America, it said that "tradition" and "continuity" are the "very foundations" of the British Monarchy. So, it is very unlikely for the Royal Family to do things that will shock the public, just like what Meghan Markle and Prince Harry did, an expert added.

Also, the publication revealed that a recent poll touched on the subject. Based on the results, 47 per cent of the respondents, reportedly, said that Prince Charles should not give up his "right" to the British Throne. Meanwhile, 46 per cent said that he should pass the Crown to Prince William.

In the end, though, royal experts and analysts, reportedly, asserted that it would be only "natural" if Prince Charles would not abdicate. At the same time, they also, reportedly, noted that it would be "equally natural" if he chooses to abdicate for Prince William.
