Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to have broken several royal protocols in their royal wedding in 2018. They decided to follow what they want, not minding the rules, and one of them is the Duke of Sussex's wedding ring.

Different from other royal men, Prince Harry's wedding band is a far cry from the royal tradition. Instead of the usual Welsh gold, he opted to have a modern, platinum designed ring to signify his marriage to Meghan Markle.

Photographers luckily got a close-up shot of the Duke of Sussex's ring at the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre in September 2018. Compared to the royal family-favored wedding rings, his is a much slender one with a subtly brushed and textured finish, according to Hello! Magazine.

It is also quite common for the royal men not to wear their wedding rings but not for the sixth in line to the throne. It is quite surprising for some that he chose a smart ring. It is said to be his personal preference than following a tradition.

Prince Harry's brother, Prince William, and grandfather, Prince Philip, do not wear their wedding rings. His father, Prince Charles, on the other hand, opts to wear his often.

But, compared to his dad, the Prince of Wales' ring is made of classic gold, just like other wedding bands in the royal family. Even Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton's rings are made of gold, which Queen Elizabeth II usually gives from her Welsh gold collection.

This tradition has been followed since the Queen Mother got married to the Duke of York in 1923. However, Prince Harry opted not to follow this tradition, as he liked to have a more modern-styled ring. He also always wears it on his ring finger, while Prince Charles uniquely dons his on his pinky finger, together with his signet ring.

When he exchanged I dos with Meghan Markle at St. George's Chapel, the camera took a close-up shot of their ring, Independent noted. The couple chose the court jewellers Cleave and Company to make their wedding bands.

In a statement the palace released before their royal wedding, it said the Duchess of Sussex's ring was made of Welsh Gold, gifted by Queen Elizabeth herself. Prince Harry's, alternatively, was a platinum band with a textured finish, and both rings were crafted in the Cleave workshop. Later, at their reception at Frogmore House, Meghan Markle was seen wearing Princess Diana's famous emerald cut ring.
