Netflix hasn't yet renewed or canceled Sweet Magnolias season 2 as of this writing. Viewers may need to wait for a few weeks or months to find out the fate of the series. But considering it's ending, it's apparent that more stories are possibly coming in the future.
Sweet Magnolias is based on Sherryl Woods' book series of the same name. The series follows the lives of three women living in South Carolina: Maddie Townsend, Dana Sue Sullivan, and Helen Decatur. They navigate careers, families, as well as romances in the town of Serenity.
Although Sweet Magnolias season 2 is not yet confirmed, Netflix has a reason to bring back the series -- mostly because there's still a lot of source material out there. So far, the general audience seems like enjoying the 10-episode show.
If Netflix would stick with its usual approach, the renewal decision might be made about three to six weeks after the May 19 release date. Reports suggest the announcement might eve made by early July 2020 -- if ever the streaming platform decided to move forward.
As for the potential release date of Sweet Magnolias season 2, it will most likely be released at some point next year. But because of the current global health crisis, filming might be delayed. If ever, it may probably arrive in summer 2021.
Meanwhile, the first season has left a lot of stories that are worth-exploring in Sweet Magnolias season 2. The previous installment ended with a shocker, wherein Kyle Townsend flees from a house party and crashed the vehicle of his brother.
Maddie was frightened seeing her youngest son but also worried about the safety of her oldest son, Tyler Townsend. It was then revealed by the first responders that someone has been trapped in the passenger's seat, leaving this cliffhanger for season 1.
This passenger will probably be revealed in Sweet Magnolias season 2. If one of the young residents of Serenity dies, the bonds between the three main characters will be more intense. Maddie might take Bill back and rely on him, while Dana Sue may re-ignite a romance with Ronnie.
Helen, on the other hand, is not yet ready for a new relationship but Eric will remain by her side. And in the event Kyle's car accident only resulted in minor injuries, the next installment may continue focusing on the adults balancing their lives.
Sweet Magnolias stars JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Maddie Townsend, Heather Headley as Helen Decatur, Brooke Elliott as Dana Sue Sullivan, Chris Klein as Bill Townsend, Jamie Lynn Spears as Noreen Fitzgibbons, Justin Bruening as Cal Maddox, Carson Rowland as Tyler Townsend, and Logan Allen as Kyle Townsend.
