Some people still find it hard to believe that the Sonic The Hedgehog film was a huge success despite all of the challenges that it has faced in the past. However, it looks like the movie is going to be so much more than just a huge box office hit. A new report reveals that a Sonic The Hedgehog sequel is already being developed by Paramount Pictures. In addition to that, Sonic 2 will be bringing back the team that worked on the first film.

The confirmation comes from Variety, which confirms that Paramount Pictures is once again teaming up with Sega Sammy for Sonic The Hedgehog 2. The sequel will once again be directed by Jeff Fowler, who helmed the first movie. Co-writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller, who also wrote the original film, will return to pen the screenplay. In addition to that, Toby Ascher, Neal H. Moritz, and Toru Nakahara are confirmed to produce the movie while Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi, and Tim Miller will serve as executive producers of the project.

But what can fans expect to see in the Sonic The Hedgehog sequel? Fans are already hoping that the first movie would lead to a full film franchise that would explore the video games' expansive universe. This would mean introducing more characters and hopefully leading to spin-off movies based in the same cinematic universe. But first, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 would need to introduce the blue speedster's friends.

Not surprisingly, the post-credits scene of the first film already teased on what will happen in the sequel. At the final moment, a fox with two tails went through a ring portal and ended up on Earth where she immediately began looking for Sonic. There is little doubt that the fox was Tails, who also appears in the Sonic games and related media. Needless to say, the character might not be the only new one who will be showing up in Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

For now, the premise of the Sonic The Hedgehog sequel has not yet been revealed. Nevertheless, there is a huge possibility that Parks and Recreation star Ben Schwartz will be brought back to provide the voice of the titular character. In addition to that, fans are hoping that Jim Carrey will return to reprise his role as Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.

The sequel to Sonic The Hedgehog has not yet been given an official release date. Likewise, it is still unclear when the film will begin production. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
