There is a good reason why a sequel to Alita: Battle Angel is one of the highly anticipated films in the next few years. Although the live-action adaptation of the manga series didn't do so well in the box office back in 2019, it has since been doing well in digital sales. In addition to that, fans have started a petition begging Disney to produce Alita 2 now that the studio has acquired 20th Century Fox. Interestingly, the producer behind Avatar 2, who had previously worked on Alita, may have confirmed that a sequel will be coming soon.

Alita: Battle Angel was undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated films in the early 2000s but the film had to be pushed back several times due to James Cameron's other projects. In addition to that, there was some backlash to Alita's original design revealed in the first trailer. Nevertheless, the project persevered and was released in early 2019. Although it wasn't a huge hit in the box office, the movie has since amassed a loyal fanbase that continues to demand for a sequel.

So what are the chances that Alita: Battle Angel 2 is happening? Producer Jon Landau may have teased that there is a way for the sequel to become a reality. The Avatar 2 producer recently shared an interesting image on his Instagram account along with an important message. "Here's to The Alita Army and all of the fans of Alita: Battle Angel. Hope you are staying healthy and safe," Landau wrote. He then added the hashtags #alitabattleangel, #washyourhands, #alitaarmy, and #rosasalazar.

In the picture, Jon Landau is wearing a T-shirt with Alita's image that has the slogan, "Wash your hands, I want a sequel." Not surprisingly, this has led to speculations that Alita: Battle Angel 2 might be in the plans after the coronavirus outbreak lockdowns.
