Charlize Theron is back with a brand new action film on Netflix and the first trailer for The Old Guard promises plenty of action for fans who have been hoping to see the actress kicking some butt all over again. But who exactly is Andy and why is she so difficult to kill? The movie adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name will answer all this and might even tease at a possible sequel.
The trailer for The Old Guard opens with Charlize Theron's character revealing that she is the leader of a group of elite soldiers "with an extremely rare skill set." What exactly does that mean? Andy explains that she and her team are rather special. "Let's just say we're very hard to kill," she says.
This is immediately displayed when Andy and her team are shown walking into a trap where they are gunned down by their enemies. However, these people are far from defeated. Almost immediately, they rise up again, miraculously resurrected despite the fatal injuries. The team then fights back, effectively killing their enemies.
So what exactly is happening here? As it turns out, Andy and her team are a group of immortals who are now working as mercenaries. However, their powers aren't so perfect. It is revealed that they can still feel pain when they are wounded. In addition to that, it is more difficult for them to stay hidden in the modern world.
Interestingly, things are about to change for Andy and her companions as they come across a new immortal who appears to be even more powerful than they are. At one point, Andy realizes that the woman can heal much faster than her or her team. Interestingly, this amazing skill might also lead them into trouble. But can they manage to fight back and stay alive long enough to keep the new immortal safe?
The Old Guard will also star Marwan Kenzari as Joe aka Yusuf Al-Kaysani, Matthias Schoenaerts as Booker aka Sebastian le Livre, Luca Marinelli as Nicky aka Nicolo di Genova. They are part of Charlize Theron's immortal team that encounter KiKi Layne's Nile Freeman. The Netflix movie will also star Doctor Strange actor Chiwetel Ejiofor as Copley, who is expected to play a major role in the film as well.
