There is little doubt that people are still looking forward to the follow-up to the wildly successful Mad Max: Fury Road. After all, the 2015 film starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron is still considered on the the greatest action films of all time. But is it possible that George Miller is already moving forward with a possible prequel that will focus on a young Furiosa? A new report reveals that the Mad Max filmmaker has already met with The New Mutants star Anya Taylor-Joy, who could be cast as the younger version of the Imperator.
The report comes from Variety, which revealed that Mad Max creator George Miller had a meeting with Anya Taylor-Joy about the highly anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road prequel. Although it has not yet been revealed what role the filmmaker was offering to the star of The Witch, there have been speculations that Taylor-Joy is being considered for the role of a young Furiosa. After all, Taylor-Joy has already proven that she has what it takes to be a strong female lead in movies like Morgan, Split, and Emma. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if Miller is already considering recasting Furiosa for the still-untitled Mad Max spin-off film.
But could this mean that Charlize Theron will no longer be a part of the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel? Interestingly, fans are still arguing that the Atomic Blonde star is the only actress who is capable to playing the Imperator Furiosa. Some even pointed out that the only reason why they were expecting another Mad Max movie is because of the possibility of seeing Theron back in action. For now, it is too early to tell whether Anya Taylor-Joy will be cast as the young Furiosa but we will keep you updated on this story.
The Imperator Furiosa was one of the most compelling characters to be introduced in the Mad Max Universe. Although she is initially introduced as the Immortan Joe's war captain who is responsible for driving the war rig used to collect gas for the Citadel, it was later revealed that she had turned against him and escaped with his Five Wives. Needless to say, fans are hoping to see more of the character in the near future and hopefully, she will still be played by Charlize Theron.
The planned Mad Max: Fury Road prequel has not yet been given an official title or release date.
