We may be missing out on E3 this year, but Sony's still got a lot on its plate, highlighted by the PlayStation 5 launch this fall. On June 4, there will be an hour-long virtual event that will showcase the console's game lineup.

According to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, the virtual event will be its first look at the titles that made its way on the new gaming hardware.

"Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware," Ryan said. "The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe."

It is expected that digital media outlets will cover Sony's virtual event, with CNET and GameSpot already onboard. Sony said there would be more events to watch out for after its June reveal.

U.S. fans get to watch the PS5 games reveal on June 4 at 4 pm ET, while those in the U.K. get to see the live broadcast at 9 pm BST on the same day. For those living in Australia, set your alarms close to 6 am AEST. The event will be streamed live on both the PlayStation Twitch page and PlayStation YouTube page. Or you can always choose the official website for the PlayStation if you wish.

The hype for Sony's next-gen console is real, but it appears the company is also walking on eggshells, considering what happened to Microsoft's May event, which was seen by fans as a huge disappointment.

A lot of fans were eager to see Microsoft's lineup of games for its upcoming Xbox Series X, but fans were instead greeted with a bunch of trailers instead of showcasing what gameplay is like on the new console. Sony's rival has another event scheduled in July, an online reveal of the new games straight off of its own development studios, including the makers of the popular Halo series, 343 Industries.

It goes without saying that the games are what will decide who wins the next console battle. Currently, game enthusiasts mostly agree that Microsoft has better marketing and messaging. Sony still has the upper hand when it comes to the previous-gen console, though.

That being said, the Xbox Series X sure has a lot to offer, but the PS5 is still going to be a major leap forward versus its predecessor.
