HP has given its Omen 15 gaming laptop a makeover and also welcomed AMD processors on board. The Windows laptop is already available starting at $1000 and comes with a new design.

The Omen 15 2020 had its thickness reduced by 11% and the front dimension's length had been shortened by 8%. Still, expect the machine to be quite heavy, weighing in at 5.4 lbs.

HP has decided to go for the subtle, minimalist appeal and got rid of the angular edges around the laptop's hinge, which actually helped the previous models to be distinctive from other brands. According to the company, its research team found that customers are using Omen computers not just for games alone, but as an all-purpose laptop as well.

Also one of the biggest changes is the support for AMD chips. Now you'll be able to outfit the Omen 15 gaming laptop with Ryzen 7 4000 processors, which are starting to dominate the laptop market. Buyers can also configure the product with Intel's 10th-generation Core "Comet Lake H" chips from the Core i5 range up to Core i7. For graphics, options run from an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 card up to a GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q GPU.

The redesigned Omen 15 now comes with a new cooling system. HP has decided to boost the fan size of the laptop and the exhaust outlets in the back to help improve the maximum airflow by over 62%. HP also added an infrared "thermopile sensor," which is designed to detect heat across the laptop and maximize performance from the Dynamic Power feature. In return, the system will be able to get a more precise look at the hardware's thermals, allowing customers to better calibrate performance via the built-in HP Omen Command Center app.

As for RAM and storage options, the Omen 15 has a variety of them, including support for up to 1TB of PCIe NVMe SSD. The laptop's 15.6-inch display can be configured with a 4K OLED panel, or an IPS screen with a 120Hz, 144Hz, or even 300Hz refresh rate.

Interested buyers of the HP Omen 15 can visit HP.com, and if you're somewhere in the U.S., you can also get the laptop at Best Buy.

If you're more interested in a lower-priced gaming laptop, HP has one for you in the form of the Pavilion Gaming 16, which goes on sale later in June with a starting price of $800.
