One of the questions in New Amsterdam season 3 is whether or not Jocko Sims' Dr. Floyd Reynolds is coming back. This particular storyline might be addressed in the latest installment since we didn't get a clear answer as to where his story is heading.

New Amsterdam season 3 needs to address several stories, with Reynolds' future being one of the biggest. At the end of the previous installment, he departed to the West Coast to be with his fiance. Despite that, many believed he would still return when the new season premieres.

In a report via Deadline, Sims discussed during the virtual ATX Television Festival where his character is going moving forward. He said that he's not sure where the future of Dr. Reynolds would be. He moved to San Francisco to be with his fiance, this story was supposed to be resolved in season 2 finale.

However, this story wasn't addressed as the series halted its production because of the real-life health crisis. Sims revealed that the second installment will wrap up the question as to whether or not Dr. Reynolds would be gone for good. But, that story has been pushed to New Amsterdam season 3.

Hence, we're probably going to see the character returning to provide answers to his storyline. There are also ideas as to how the journey of Dr. Reynolds would be compelling. According to Sims, there are several things he could bring to the character -- if ever he sticks around.

He said it may be about his own physical health, like someone from a family with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure; or it could also be being a Black male. Sims said bringing these real-life situations into the character and in the story means there's still a lot to tell.

As for the release date of New Amsterdam season 3, there are uncertainties at the moment. NBC hasn't yet released its fall schedule, so it remains to be seen whether or not the new season is coming back in 2020. There could be a long hiatus since the cast and crew won't be able to start filming in New York.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a major concern here, it would be impossible for everyone to go back working for the time being. And because of the potential delay, the series won't be able to meet its fall premiere date. The good news is that New Amsterdam season 3 will not be the final installment as NBC renewed the series through season 5.
