There are a lot of questions when it comes to Queen of the South season 5, especially when it comes to its official release date. The global health crisis has impacted the series and it may not be arriving this summer. So, the question now is: will the new installment still premiere in 2020?

There's still uncertainty about the official release date of Queen of the South season 5. It remains to be seen where or not USA Network will air it this 2020. Filming was underway the time the series halted its production due to the coronavirus outbreak.

At the moment, there is no clear indication as to when Queen of the South season 5 will resume filming. And because of that, its premiere date will potentially be delayed. The producers are preparing guidelines to make sure the set will be safe as soon as they start working again.

The top priorities now are the safety and health of the cast and crew. The good thing is that, when they start filming again, they won't be starting from scratch since they're already filmed a few episodes. In addition, some scripts have already been written, so there won't be a problem with that.

If ever the series could resume filming this fall, CarterMatt noted the new installment may be released before the year ends. Yet, everything is still up to USA Network -- given that they make the programming decisions in the end, whether or not filming wraps up.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Queen of the South season 5 is expected to premiere in June 2020. All preceding seasons were released during this month, so it only makes sense the new season follows this as a well. Furthermore, the fifth installment is said to have 13 episodes.

As for the story, the upcoming installment will continue following Alice Braga's Teresa Mendoza; a woman who was forced to run from the Mexican cartel and seeks refuge in the United States. In addition, Peter Gadiot's James Valdez will have a vital role moving forward, especially in Teresa's life.

Reportedly, Teresa will experience a turning point because of the presence of James. And aside from that, Teresa will also be making new deals, as well as new enemies when the new season arrives. The Russians, in particular, will be a huge part here.

In the fourth installment, Teresa told his men she wanted to work with the Russian cartel from New York. She wanted to expand her business, but her crew informed her it would be a dangerous deal. This particular storyline would play out in a huge way in Queen of the South season 5.
