USA Network confirmed Queen of the South season 5 is happening, and the renewal announcement was made right after the fourth season concluded. So now, here's everything we know so far about the upcoming installment, including the possible release date, cast, storyline, and other details.

While its renewal status has been confirmed, the official release date of Queen of the South season 5 has yet to be revealed. But, all previous seasons arrived on the USA Network in June. Hence, it's very likely the fifth installment will also premiere around the same month in 2020. The new season is expected to have 13 episodes, as well.

Series lead star Alice Braga will be back as Teresa Mendoza, a woman who was forced to run from the Mexican cartel and seek refuge in America in Queen of the South season 5. Meanwhile, Peter Gadiot's character, James Valdez, will reportedly have a vital part when the latest installment arrives next year.

According to showrunner Ben Lobato, Gadiot's character will be an "important part" of Queen of the South season 5. Teresa will, reportedly, experience a "turning point" because of James' presence, especially after Tony (played by Julian Silva) was killed at the end of season 4. Following that bloody encounter, James came back and warned Teresa that her enemies are coming after her.

"We decided to get [James] back in and set him up for season five and let's go," Lobato told Entertainment Weekly about the imminent Queen of the South season 5.

Also, Queen of the South season 5 will still follow Teresa making new deals, as well as new enemies. The teaser of the latest installment hints Russians will be important while the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is at Teresa's door. The 15-second clip also starts with one of the characters saying: "These Russians, they are the most ruthless sons of b****** that walk the Earth."

In season 4, Teresa told her men she wanted to work with the Russian cartel from New York so she could expand her business. However, her crew warned her that it's a dangerous deal; she still went on because she wanted to establish a legitimate operation.

In one of the scenes in the teaser, Teresa is wearing a white suit while walking towards the Russian men, suggesting a potential business deal. Thus, there are still more stories to tell leading to Queen of the South season 5.
