Sam Heughan ignited the James Bond rumors anew after he admitted that he wants to have another shot at playing 007. The Outlander actor called out the Bond producers that he is just waiting for their call.

In a recent interview with This Morning, Heughan said that it would be nice to see a Scottish 007 again, teasing that he could play the iconic character. So far, the only Scottish actor who played Ian Fleming's character was Sean Connery. He portrayed James Bond in seven movies from 1962 to 1983.

Heughan told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that he would definitely end their interview if suddenly Bond producer Barbara Broccoli called him. Sam admitted that it is his dream role and hopes that fans would see a Scottish Bond next.

Heughan previously admitted that he auditioned for the lead role in 2005 when Pierce Brosnan left the franchise. Unfortunately, he was beaten by Daniel Craig. Other actors who, reportedly, considered for the Casino Royale sequel after Brosnan left were Man of Steel's Henry Cavill, Avatar's Sam Worthington, and ER's Goran Visnjic.

Now that Craig is also leaving the role and the upcoming No Time To Die would be his last, the search for the new James Bond is on. Heughan said that he would like to give it another shot in the audition if given a chance.

Heughan is not new in playing a spy role. He earlier starred as MI6 agent Sebastian Henshaw in the 2018 movie, The Spy Who Dumped Me.

He is also used to action-packed scenes. Heughan plays the main villain in Vin Diesel-superhero film, Bloodshot. He is also the lead actor in the upcoming action thriller film SAS: Red Notice. Of course, Heughan also had action scenes in the Starz TV series Outlander

When it was first rumored that Sam Heughan is among the top contenders to replace Craig, his Outlander and Bloodshot stars and bosses backed him up. Vin Diesel praised Heughan and expressed his support to him while Bloodshot director David Wilson said he would be on the opening weekend of the Bond movie if Sam would be its lead star.

Outlander author Diana Gabaldon, on the other hand, also believed that Heughan would be a great Bond. She hinted that Heughan doesn't need to give up his role as Jamie Fraser in the Starz series if ever he would be cast as the next 007. Gabaldon said the Outlander and Bond producers could work together to make adjustments in their respective filming schedules to allow Heughan to play both roles.

Other actors that were also rumored as top rivals of Heughan for the chance to be the next James Bond are Games Of Thrones' Richard Madden, Little Women's James Norton, and Avengers' actors Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston.
