The filming for Outlander Season 6 has been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. But the series stars Sam Heughan and Sophie Shelton decided not to isolate themselves at home and instead joined Black Lives Matter protests in their respective countries.

Heughan, who plays the role of Jamie Fraser in the Starz series, shared on his Instagram account a photo of the protest in Glasgow, Scotland that he attended. The Bloodshot actor said though there is still a health risk, he felt the need to stand up to fight for equality and justice for everyone. He added that the majority of the demonstrators wore masks and took precautions.

This is not the first time that Heughan expressed his thoughts about the ongoing protests in the U.S. following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black American who died after a police officer pinned him down on the ground with a knee on his neck.

Earlier this month, the Scottish actor tweeted his disappointment with the violent police retaliation being caught on camera. Heughan also shared the Obama Foundation Twitter account for resources and information about police violence and anti-racism in the U.S.

Meanwhile, Skelton, who portrays Jamie's daughter Brianna, did the same as her on-screen father. She shared some photos from a rainy London march. The actress was seen holding up a sign that reads, "'Matter' is minimum. Black lives are precious."

Heughan's onscreen wife and Skelton's TV mother, Caitriona Balfe (Claire, expressed her support to the BLM movement and the protesters. In her post on IG, Balfe also recommended to her followers Nikole Hannah Jones' The 1619 Project, which was developed by The New York Times Magazine last year to re-examine the legacy of slavery in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the cameras are expected to begin rolling for Outlander Season 6 before the year ends. The production of the upcoming season was supposed to kick off last month but it has been put on hold because of COVID-19. The cast and crew were told to wait for further notice on when they could start filming.

The delay in production could mean that the release date for Outlander Season 6 would be pushed back as well. If the filming starts this fall, fans could at least expect a sixth season premiere in Fall 2021.

Outlander Season 6 will be based on Gabaldon's book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. It will have 12 episodes.
