Prince Harry and Meghan Markle filed the trademark documents for their new foundation, Archewell, early this year. Reports revealed that the U.S. patenting and trademarking office has not approved the papers because of some errors thus the couple, reportedly, received an "Irregularity Notice."

According to reports, a trademark attorney found several issues with Prince Harry and Meghan's filed paperwork. They have until August to correct these issues and if they fail to submit the corrected forms then the trademark application will be "abandoned."

Among the issues with the Archewell trademark is that the "goods and services" application needs to be specified in nine areas. The trademark attorney said that the application was "indefinite and too broad." Prince Harry and Meghan also failed to sign the paperwork, suggesting that it was "not being properly verified" before submission.

Archewell is supposed to provide charity and volunteering services, as well as education and training materials through books, podcasts and films. The organization is also designed to deliver an array of merchandise ranging from paperclips to clothes.

According to Cosmopolitan, it is common for trademark applications to be rejected the first time. Thus, receiving the notice is not a big deal, especially if Prince Harry and Meghan can comply and submit what the trademark office needs.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed in early April that they have filed the paperwork for Archewell, whose name was inspired by their son, Archie. The couple said that the foundation's name means strength and action to do something that mattered. They revealed the paperwork to The Telegraph since this is in a public domain, which can easily be searched and discovered by the media or their royal fans.

But Prince Harry and Meghan have yet to officially launch Archewell. The big event set for spring was canceled due to the coronavirus lockdown. The couple now said that they plan to launch the foundation in 2021.

Archewell will replace the Sussex Royal Foundation that Prince Harry and Meghan thought they could continue when they stepped back from their royal roles last March 31. However, Queen Elizabeth has not permitted the pair to use their royal titles for their private and commercial ventures.

Prince Harry and Meghan decided to quit being working royals to gain financial freedom from the royal family. The couple also chose to work outside of the royal spotlight to minimize the media scrutiny, which they claimed has been affecting their mental health.
